It's hard to believe that the Oscars are this Sunday but they are here and I am ready to throw a party -"Hollywood style".
Lights, camera, action...This award show is all about the glitz and the glamour. So glam up your pad to give guests a first-rate viewing experience. Roll out the red carpet (literally) and break out the bling. Fill vases with silver mirrored balls and hang lit paper lanterns from the ceiling. Tonight's about taking home a little gold guy, so bring on the glitz.
Call your A-List friends for this occasion since this event is for A-Listers only! Another words, no reason to feel like you have to invite Bob from the office who loves to heat up his fish in the office microwave or Carol from church who is always telling everyone how perfect her adorable little devil child is.
For this event, it's not "what" will you be wearing but "who" will you be wearing? So why not make attire the star of your Oscar bash, too. Set up a blank wall in the house with a faux step & repeat backdrop. Have a couple of friends arrive early to help you snap photos of your guests as they arrive and ask them silly questions about “who” they’re wearing.
Break out the bubbly for this event or choose a signature cocktail like the Ultimate Blueberry Martini in honor of Avatar. One of the best things about throwing a party at home is that you can tip back the bubbly to your heart’s content. So serve up some of your favorite cocktails and toast to the winners’ success.
Serve bite-site appetizers so your guests can watch the big show without having to feel like they need to sit down at the kitchen table. In honor of Up in the Air serve fun airplane snacks like peanuts or pretzels and for The Blind Sid think Southern like boneless chicken wings (not really wings) and mashed potatoes served in martini glasses for an extra touch of glam and for Avatar, well let's be honest just think blue (you can add blue food coloring to whatever it is you plan to make).
Don't forget the ballots!! This is the most important (and fun) part of this event. Hand out printed ballots, which you can download here via the Oscar website, and ask your guests to pick the winners. If you didn't get a chance to see all the movies, take a guess - that's half the fun of it. Seriously, who has time to watch all of those foreign films and short films?!?!
Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without awarding someone the "big" winner; So have some fun with your guests and the awards and hand out a couple of silly awards for "most dramatic entrance" or "best dressed" and of course the big winner of the night is who ever got the "most correct answers on the ballot".
Cheers!!
These are great tips! Thanks so much for this, I'll be linking.

I was supposed to hold my own Oscar party last month, but most of my friends were quick to say that they won't be able to attend. It was like a last minute invitation anyway, so I kinda expected it. I've already applied for cash advances in order to prepare for the party, but since it got canceled, I just used the money to buy art supplies and make my own Oscar statue. Now I know what to do next time!
