Now that we know The Kids Are Alright and are home watching Toy Story 3, brave the Winter's Bone with your True Grit. Come on over for 127 Hours to expand your Social Network. Let's find out who the biggest Fighter was this year and ready to give the King's Speech.
Be sure to come on time, at the Inception of the evening, to walk the red carpet in your most creative duds, get harassed by the paparazzi, and cast your vote.
P.S. All Black Swans are welcome!
It seems like things are finally starting to look up but in the name of keeping things stress free we have created a fun and easy, not to mention affordable, Oscars night at home!
We've pulled together a few ideas and some great recipes including Irish soda bread for "The Fighter," black and white cookies for "Black Swan" boneless chicken wings for "Winters Bone" and caramel corn for "Toy Story 3" that will work wonderfully at your Oscar-themed party.
Create a chic candy bar. Have black foil bags lined up with everyone's name on them when they arrive. Pop a big bowl of microwave popcorn and have little glass bowls alongside filled with iconic candy favorites (M & M's, Milk Duds, Snow Caps) which can be used as toppings for your popcorn or can be eaten alone. Nothing beats a sweet and salty combination to kick off the night.
Make a statement with black tutus, vase corsets and black plume feather collars to give your party a chic vibe. In lieu of paper lanterns hang black tutus from the ceiling or drape over a lamp shade. Cinch one of our vase corsets over a plain clear vase and fill with red roses.
Also, if you want your guests to feel like they are in a Oscar VIP lounge, serve champagne or prosecco (cheaper option) in silver ice tubs with glasses on the coffee table in front of you, creating your own table service. This is a great way for guests to replenish their bubbly quickly while watching the show!
Cocktails are a must. Keep it simple so that you're not running around playing bartender all night. Create a signature black cocktail that can be embellished with marabou feathers on each glass and served easily from a pitcher. Try making up a batch of Signature Black Swan Cocktails and keep two shakers out on the bar so guests can shake their own cocktail. Line up several martinis ahead of time instead of pouring on request; this will create a colorful looking bar.
Black Swan Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Black Raspberry liqueur
1 ounce tequila
1/2 oz amaretto liqueur
Shake tequila and amaretto with ice. Strain into chocolate rimmed martini glass. Shake black raspberry liqueur with ice and layer into martini glass.
Since everyone's eyes will be glued to the tv, create a meal that can be eaten comfortably while sitting down in front of the TV. Bowls are best for eating on the fly. Try sticking with the "bar" theme and indulge guests with a classic favorite. A Curry Bar is a great way to go. Place the curry rice in the center and in smaller bowls and have your guests customize their own curry to be as spicy or mild as they would like.
As guests leave, have little boxes lined up with a midnight munchie. Espresso brownies will give your guests a jolt to make it home.
