Shiver me Timbers...critics haven't been too kind to the Pirates franchise but I have a feeling it's going to make a huge splash when it opens tomorrow. People still love the original concept and who can resist Johnny as Jack Sparrow? Let's face it: The movie is a worldwide phenomenon. (Plus, there are mermaids in this movie!!) So, why not host a swashbuckling soiree before or after you head to the theater!!
Start by setting the mood with your invitations.
When guests walk in greet them with a cheery, "Ahoy, matey!" and keep a bowl of pirate accessories at the door that they can choose from...items like eye patches, beards, clip-on earrings and hats. You can either buy them at Social Couture or make your own.
Make skull and bones pirate cupcakes topped pirate flags. Serve drinks and food out of coconut cups. Fill glass jars with different flavored Pirate's Booty. Yum!
Don't forget the Treasure Hunt...what would a Pirate Party be without a hunt for the Pirate's booty! Make a map with fun clues from the movie and hide treaures all around the area...like a strand of pearls (fake of course), gold coins, compass, skulls and for the big find, fill a small treasure chest with gold coin chocolates and all sorts of other pirate themed novelties. The kids will go crazy and it will keep them busy for a while.
For a fun craft, you can also get small cardboard treasure chests and have the kids decorate them with colorful beads and jewels...these also make great party favors.
Entice all of your senses and play music from the movie...you can always find the older movie soundtracks on iTunes abd Amazon. You should also be able to get the new soundtrack, Stranger Tides which should be out Now!
