A Simple Memorial Day Menu

First of all, I can't believe that I haven't posted since Cinco de Mayo....Wow!  Where did the time go?!?!  We are back now with some fun food suggestions for this weekend's festivities!!

So, fire up the grill and break out the cocktails because Summer is almost here and it's time to Party!!

To Start:  I am all about bite-size appetizers so why not start things off with some Cheesy Mini Quiches...Yum!  I found this great recipe in All You Magazine - so click here to get the recipe for these tasty little treats.

Don't forget to put a little crudite plate together with a nice veggie dip for those guests watching their waistline (since Summer means Swimsuits!).

For your Main Course:  I think kebabs (turkey kielbasa or sirloin-vegetable) are such a great choice and an easy way to serve your guests. 

For the sides:  make a cold potato salad.  Boil the potatoes (whole with skin) than peel the skin and slice them like potato chips than just add olive oil, onions and season them to taste!!  Serve cold.  They are easy and super yummy (recipe by my mother-in-law). 

My husband's favorite Memorial Day side is ColeSlaw so of course that will be on our menu. 

To Drink:  I love drinks that allow your guests to be able to serve themselves so make-up a batch of Strawberry Lemonade Punch.  Just add 1 (12 oz.) pkg. frozen strawberries (with juice and sugar)
1 (12 oz.) can frozen pink lemonade.  Mix lemonade according to can directions. Add frozen strawberries, slightly thawed, and mix.

For Dessert:  Just keep it simple and go with good ole fashioned ice cream sandwiches.  Just make-up a batch of chocolate chip cookies; place one scoop of vanilla ice cream between two cookies and voila...You are everyone's Hero!!!

Serve up a pitcher of these to help cool off during these Sizzling Summer Days. They are not only refreshing but dee-licious!  Perfect for your next summer party or signature wedding cocktail.

Ingredients:

• 8 cups seeded
• 1/2-inch watermelon cubes
• 2 cups chilled ginger ale
• 1/4 cup water
• 6 ounces frozen limeade concentrate

Preparation:
Arrange watermelon cubes on a baking sheet. Freeze 30 minutes, or until solidly frozen. Working in batches, blend frozen watermelon, chilled ginger ale, 1/4 cup water and frozen limeade concentrate in a blender until smooth. Serve in chilled glasses.

T.G.I.F. THE BLUEBERRY BUCK

 
Today's Memorial Day Cocktail for the weekend comes to us from food blogger, Danielle at Beyond the Plate and this one will definitely make you feel like celebrating.  Thanks, Danielle for this incredible recipe. 

Blueberry Buck (courtesy of the good folks at Hendrick’s Gin)
Makes one strong cocktail

12 blueberries (defrosted if using frozen berries)
4 tablespoons good quality gin
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 tablespoons ginger beer
Ice cubes
1-2 mint sprigs

Place the blueberries, gin and lemon juice in a measuring cup or shallow bowl. Muddle everything together (I like to use an immersion blender for this), until every single blueberry is crushed beyond recognition.

Fill a chilled glass with ice cubes. Strain the blueberry-gin mixture over the ice.

Pour over the ginger beer, give everything a good stir, and garnish with mint to serve.

It's a Patriotic Picnic

 
I love these ideas for a Patriotic Picnic that I found on BHG.  What a simple idea...stars and stripes plastic banners laid in perpendicular rows across the table.  BHG suggests laying out the banners in order to create a "place mat" at each seat. 

 

Fill red, white and blue patriotic flatware and napkins into patriotic baskets or white buckets tied with red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon to keep the tableware organized and standing at attention.

 
How fun is this festive tablescape...simply mix and match assorted patterns of paper goods to create a patriotic table setting. Don't worry about being overly be matchy-matchy just have fun with the colors and the colors will go along way to create a cohesive look suitable for any Memorial day picnic.

 

Food is a great way to decorate any table and these colorful berries are the perfect way to decorate your Memorial Day table. Fill white snow cone cups with blueberries and strawberries to create a sweet dazzling display all in one and how yummy does these look?!

I am always looking for new ideas for parties and with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend celebrations just around the corner I have been combing the internet looking for fun, unique ideas to share with you...I am excited to report that I think you will love some of the ideas I found on Her Royal Heinous, Queen Bee by Alm Chandler and Emily from Magnolia Creative.  So adorable and very patriotic!!

 
Colorful tin buckets can double and triple as place settings, place card holders and party favors.  So easy to make something so simple look so festive just by adding some colorful ribbon, tags and American Flags.

 
Wrap good ole fashioned coco-cola in patriotic wrappers!  Nothing says America more than Coca-Cola.

 
I love that they kept the food traditional....hotdogs, potato chips, cookies, cupcakes and a Cherry Pie!  Salute...so American!!!  How cute and festive are these hot dogs wrapped in colorful bands and tied with twine...every detail was so well thought out.

 
 
 
To make this adorable and oh so creative apple garland they bought apples (not real) at the local Hobby shop then threaded twine through and added ribbon accents to the end. I LOVE this idea.
