Let the cocktails and and decor take center stage by keeping your party simple: serve up simple food like mini quiches and a mixed green salad in black take-out boxes. For a sweet something, continue your cocktail theme by using champagne or martini glasses to hold caramel corn, popcorn or Halloween candy.
Make killer signature cocktails like black widow martinis, ginger jack-o-lanterns or candy corn cordials.
Decorate with pumpkins...spray paint them with a high gloss paint (black or white) and carve them up and set them all around the house to light the way to different rooms. Candlelight is the key to creating the perfect spellbinding ambience. You can also use large hallowed out pumpkins to serve beverages and food (pumpkin soup or chips and dip)...be sure and put a bowl inside of the pumpkin - don't just put your drinks or food in the pumpkin without having some kind of a liner/bowl. Don't forget to add the dry ice to bowls for an extra eerie effect. (Warning: do not put dry ice in drinks...it is harmful!)
Cover your furniture with old, white sheets this not only makes your house look haunted but also protects your furniture.
For the entertainment, well this should be an easy one since it's Halloween hold a costume contest. Prizes don't need to be fancy. You can get Halloween trophies at the local Halloween store or make your own with some ribbon and card stock. You could even crown some or give them a tiara that's a real thriller.
Make sure when you send the invite that you let guests know that there will be a costume contest. People always love a little friendly competition.
