Mother's Day Gift Ideas

A couple of years ago my Mom and I started a new tradition of NOT giving each other gifts or at least gifts in the traditional sense.  We decided it would be more fun "to do" things together. 

Last year we went to French Laundry in Napa...My Mom had always wanted to go and even though we lived in the area she but never felt like there was a big enough occasion to go so it was a real treat when she finally went because the "big" occasion was her.  The year before we did a spa day together at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley and had a girly lunch complete with bellini's and all...I think it had been years since we laughed that much together.  This year I have decided to take her to see the broadway show, Chicago which is currently playing here in LA - she absolutely loves musicals.  I feel lke we are creating great memories together and when we look back at these days we will look back with such joy and warmth.  I don't know about you but I know my Mom just wants my undivided attention for at least one day and I actually think she deserves it.  She has taught me everything I know and gave me the strength to pursue my dreams.  She always told me, "Where there's a will there's a way" and "Can't never Could!"  Those words of encouragement made me feel like I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.  So this year instead of buying your Mom flowers that will probably wilt in a few days or a blouse that will sit in her closet for another year...surprise her and plan a fun day; it will be the best Mother's day gift you can give your Mom even if you just take a walk on the beach together.  Happy Mother's day!!

Easy Mother's Day Brunch

Hosting a stylish Mother's Day brunch is simple when you serve colorful mimosas and these yummy no cook dishes.

Here's your simple menu:

1.  Bellini Mimosas - Put some fresh peach slices into champagne glasses and add some chilled peach nectar to cover. Top with chilled sparkling rose wine, prosecco or champagne.  Add a drop of grenadine syrup or pomegranate juice to each drink.

So, in honor of summer getaways - whip up one of these Honey Mango Margaritas to kick start your dreams of summer getaways.

Honey Mango Margarita

 

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila
• 1/2 oz Cointreau
• 1 oz honey
• 1/2 cup mango, sliced
• 1 cup ice
• juice of half lime
• salt for rimming

Directions:  Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Strain into a margarita glass rimmed with salt (optional).
